Oh yeah, some more history

I left out of my recent history post the few vacations that I've taken.

In early june just before I started my newest job. I went with lori down to San Fransisco. It was really fun. We stayed in Union Square i think? anyway, it was a location that was really close to all the touristy things to do. We went to alcatraz on the night tour, which was fun but not very spooky. Alcatraz had a lot more history than I knew, I thought it was just a prison that got shut down. But I guess the native americans took over the island at one point siting a treaty that had been made between them and the colonists saying that abandoned goverment property was able to be reclaimed by the native americans. And I guess that when they left/were forced out they torched a bunch of the buildings, so it would have been cool to see the original buildings, but most of them were burned out husks. The cells were really small, and the solitary confinement cells... wow, now I know why you always see people say not to go to solitary in movies and what not. It's serious stuff. pitch black except for a litle 3x5 inch window that faces another wall. no bed, no toilet, just a drain and 4 walls and a door. We also got to see a bunch of old sailing ships, the one I liked the most was a late 1800's cargo ship that would travel from eastern US to west coast by sailing completely around south america. Lori got seasick on that one. The other cool one was the USS Pampanito. I'm glad I was never part of the navy, because I'm about 2 feet too tall to live in one of those subs, luckily I only hit my head once :). Oh the other cool ship was a full size replica of the ships that christopher columbus used to sail over to the west indies. It was way smaller than I thought it would be. It was maybe 35-45 feet in length. Nothing like the pictures they have in history books. We also went to china town, it was closed though because it was sunday when we went.

And, last august I went to Burning Man for the first time, it's going to have to be it's own post another time though. I'm out of mental ink for all this writing.

For Every Action...

If you want to see a good movie, go see Fido at the Varsity. It's not great, but it's the best movie I've seen this year.Granted, the competition has been limp at best, but I still enjoyed it. So there.

why the transformers movie sucked

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the transformers movie, but I figured that way I might be suprised and actually like it. Well I was totally wrong, it was worse than my already lowered expectations could have possibly imagined.

The beginning was the best part, It was all down hill from there. I liked the main characters, army guy and car boy. Obviously they were such good characters that I remember their names...

Good bye, old friend

Hello new friend!

Edit(8+ hours later): Not so fast new friend...

So, I checked out ubuntu and gentoo. Gentoo seemed really cool so I burned the cd, and installed. But I'm having trouble with my stupid ethernet card, I've been looking through the forums, other people seem to be having the same problems with the same card. And I remember now that I had a bitch of a time trying to get slackware to use it also.

I've got all the pieces to try and fix it, I just have to figure out how to put the pieces all together..

Oh, hello mr. bourbon, nice to meet you.

Edit(2 hours after the last edit)

Yeah, eat that eth0, thats what I thought punk!

Booze + linux installing FTW!

Friendslist ASSEMBLE!

What Distro of linux do you use and why? I'm planning to set up my secondary machine up again with linux, I've got a slackware 8 disc around some where and I think Redhad Enterprise. But I'm curious what you're using and why.

Thanks,
-Lago

Limerick >> Haiku

My Latest book summarized:

When it comes to the rules of gravity,
Newton wasn't quite so savvy.
But out came Einstein's,
Concept of Space-Time.
And all the calculations are happy!

My last shopping experience:

There once was a man who wasn't black,
Who went to the mall to snack.
Surrounded by fakes,
It was more than he could take.
And he had a damn panic attack!

And a dirty one:

A man once went to the doctor.
He made a mistake and mocked her.
When he was made bare
She said "Look over there!"
And out came the large rectal thermometer!

I need to put my computer out of its misery

My computer has some kind of very unhappy fan in it. That makes the loudest most pitiful noise you could imagine a computer making. It seriously sounds like a mix between a harley motorcycle and a bum crying. I should open my computer up and see if I can find which fan is the trouble maker. The only worry is that it'll be something that is costly to replace. Which I'll have to put off until after the wedding.

I finally made up the mead on saturday with the help of

I finally made up the mead on saturday with the help of <lj-user="flagmantho">. It has a OG of 1.120, it should end up with a ABV in the 12-15% range. Now I just have to leave it there for a few months and ferment. The waiting and doing nothing is the part that I am best at! It should make a good anniversary drink next year.

Wedding plans are coming to fruition, finally. The stress of it all has started to ease a bit, and for that I am very thankful.

I'm reading books about astrophysics and quantum theory, it's fun!
